It feels like yesterday when Matt Stone and Trey Parker announced South Park the stick of truth. A fantastic, simple turn based RPG, which i actually think has been the only turn based game i’ve actually finished. Followed up from the stick of truth success, Ubisoft and the south park team gave us the fractured but whole - which i really need to return to.

But now, 7 years later the south park team have given us a new game - but rather than a turn based RPG developed by Ubisoft, we’ve got a third person roguelike action basher in South Park Snow Day. But, how does it hold up? Is it better than the Fractured But WHole and the stick of truth? Is the change from south park 2d animation, to 3D a good change? Is it as funny as the show? Well….

We know exactly what a great South Park game can look like, and South Park: Snow Day! couldn’t be farther from it. I’m a huge fan of throwing out the rulebook to try something completely fresh, especially in this age of samey sequels and forever live-service games that increasingly play it safe. But this bold attempt at a new direction misses the mark so drastically I’m aghast at just how sideways things went. Whether it’s due to the thoroughly unenjoyable combat or the uncharacteristically toothless and unfunny story, I can’t recommend anyone waste their time on this cooperative lost cause – even my fellow die-hard South Park fans.
